Work Hard: Julie McGalliard has more than ten years of experience as a graphic artist, technical writer, and programmer. This skill combination often strikes people as unexpected, but it works out perfectly for the web.
She has applied her skills to a variety of companies, from marketing firms to the high-tech world of automation and simulation. She enjoys learning new things and dislikes being bored: NetSolutions is a perfect environment for her because there's always so much going on.
"I used to be the arts editor on The Western Front, my college newspaper," she says. "Clearly I have a thing for crazy deadline pressure."
She is active in local arts organizations, such as the Whatcom Film Association and Clarion West, where she did the design and custom programming on their new website.
Play Hard: Julie is a second-generation geek and enjoys many typical geek pasttimes, such as caffeine, comic books, and science fiction (which she writes as well as reads). Her online comic series Goth House is a creative outlet as well as a sandbox to play with new discoveries in web design and programming. Sometimes the line between work and play isn't so clear: years ago, she determined that she would rather play Photoshop than a video game.
Her biggest love, after writing and her husband (not necessarily in that order) is travel, followed by a long list of other obsessions, from carnivorous plants to fountain pens.
